In his latest short stand up , Dave starts off with a familiar story about his first stand up experience. But this time he added something new to the story that he never told before. The part he added was all part of the bigger picture of what Dave wanted his audience and viewers to understand. Dave gave the audience a few stories/metaphors to test their understanding. He discussed tactics people in power or influence over him used to take advantage of him being naive and desperate, both in some situations.
Dave is one of few artist today who acknowledges the issues in the business and is bringing it to the forefront. Artist like Kanye West and Joe Budden have been in the news as of late about the contracts and the dirty business they are in. In Unforgiven Chappelle goes deeper into talking about his contract with Comedy Central and what led up to his signing of the contract. . He tells the audience he would do another Chappelle Show but he can’t because he doesn’t own his name and likeness. He called for a boycott of The Chappelle Show because he is not being paid for his IP. In his closing argument Dave discusses the morality of right and wrong in the entertainment industry.
